Description: If you are in a tough financial situation, getting to class on time and making ends meet might be difficult enough, without the added pressures of homework and after school activities. Add to that having to find an after-school job to either help out at home or just have a little extra spending money. Having time for community service and volunteering can seem almost impossible. But for those students who are able to not only find time for themselves, but also time to help other, the Good Tidings Foundation (based in the San Francisco Bay area) has created a scholarship fund for students who are active in their communities and demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship Name: Community Choice Foundation Scholarship
Description: The Community Choice Credit Union serves the state of Michigan with low-fee banking options. The Community Choice Foundation was created to help Community Choice fulfills it’s mission to “Give Big” to the Michigan community, and uses donations exclusively to support the scholarship program. Community Choice even matches every dollar contributed to provide even more scholarship money for students. Each year, outstanding Michigan high school students who have an impact on their communities through service hours apply to the program in the hopes of becoming one of 21 recipients of a $5,000 scholarship for college. Students must use the scholarship money to attend a college or university in Michigan. Due to the high number of applications that Community Choice receives each year, high-impact community service, including leadership roles, long-term commitment, and academics receive special consideration.
