Scholarship Name: IHS Scholarship Program
Description: There are many scholarships and fellowship programs out there that seek to offer college financial assistance to under-represented groups so that they can pursue careers in the health professions, but few programs are as comprehensive (or have such a sizable award!) as the Indian Health Service. This government scholarship program for Native Americans offers a full ride (that’s right, full college tuition) to college.Full tuition includes things like books and fee – even a tutor! Of course, the purpose of the program is to keep students practicing their health profession (which includes doctors, nurses, medical technicians, etc.) within the Native American community; for every year that you receive the scholarship, you are expected to commit to two years of service.

Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) California Chapter
Scholarship Name: Ruth G. White Scholarship
Description: Female California residents, who are pursuing degrees in "the broad field of medicine", can apply for the Philanthropic Educational Organization’s Ruth G. White Scholarship. The award, which is given to women with outstanding scholastic ability, a commitment to community service, and financial need, is available to first year graduate students.With so few scholarships available for medical school, the P.E.O. offers a great opportunity Award recipients should plan on continuing their medical practice in the state of California. The P.E.O also offers the Dorothy C. Wisner Scholarship for undergraduate students in the field of medicine.
