The different types of nursing degrees and certifications are: Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN):Most LPNs are high school graduates who enter a vocational program to prepare for certification as a nurse. Registered Nurses (RN): Registered nurses are the most popular kinds of nurses, and can become certified in two-years of full time study with a Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN). Some Registered Nurses may also have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Nurse Practitioner (NP): A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced nurse who requires a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN). Government Programs Now that you know what types of nursing degrees there are, you can figure out what kinds of scholarships exist to help nursing students. One of the largest pools of scholarship money for nursing school comes from the federal and state government. As the need for well-trained and qualified nurses has become more urgent, the federal government has even issued a number of special grants and scholarship fund to provide financial aid for nursing students. Nursing Associations After federal scholarship programs, professional nursing associations provide the largest amount of financial aid and scholarships for nursing majors.
While the American Association of Nurses offers scholarships for nursing school on a national level, some smaller associations, like the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the Emergency Nurses Foundation Association have scholarships for nursing majors who already have a specialty in mind.
