Description: The Institute for Humane Studies is dedicated to promoting study in the “liberal tradition” and awards research fellowships to both undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing research projects in “intellectual and institutional foundations of a free society.” Students who are award these prestigious fellowships from the Institute for Humane Studies can choose to complete their research either in the United States or abroad.

The World Bank

Scholarship Name: The World Bank Essay Competition
Description: Each year, the World Bank makes a call for essays on a topic related to international affairs and the economy (recently, the topic was Climate Change). Of course, the World Bank uses the term “essay contest” rather loosely, and students are encouraged to submit their responses to the topic using a variety of media, including video and photo. The competition further encourages students from all over the globe to submit their work, with 90% of the 2,000 or so entries coming from developing countries. Submissions are judged according to category, and the finalists of the essay contest and winner video contest are asked to attend a final jury and award ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. This is in addition to the $3,000 grand prize!
