United Daughters of the Confederacy Nursing Scholarships
Scholarship Name: Phoebe Pember Memorial and Mrs. J.O. Jones Memorial
Description: The United Daughters of the Confederacy General Organization is made up of women who have direct lineage to soldiers who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. The organization is active in charitable giving, and are extremely invested in the South and it’s rich (and controversial) history. They collect stories and other historical data pertaining to the war, and seek to honor the families of those who fought in the war. In addition to a number of unrestricted grants, the UDC gives local chapters the chance to award nursing-specific grants to members, or other women who share their American heritage.

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation
Scholarship Name: Bernice Pickens Parsons Memorial Fund
Description: For college students in West Virginia, the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation is a great place to start looking to college scholarships. They have a large number of funds and endowments set up for students going to specific schools, into specific professions, or who happen to be from a certain county. The Bernice Pickens Parsons Memorial Fund is flexible enough that it does not dictate that a student go to a particular nursing program in West Virginia, although preference is given to students from Jackson county.
