Scholarship Name: Avanzamos con Ayuda de United Health
Description: The National Association of Hispanic Nurses, a membership organization that provides a forum for nurses and health care professionals to discuss and evaluate health needs of the Hispanic community, helps nursing students mitigate some of the costs of nursing school through two scholarship programs. The first Avanzamos con Ayuda de United Health, which is offered in conjunction with the United Health Foundation, awards eight scholarships to outstanding nursing students who are proving leaders in their fields. The NAHN also offers a number of $1,000 scholarships to nursing students. Applicants should be passionate about finishing nursing school and going on to serve hispanic communities.

The American Legion (North Carolina)
Scholarship Name: Colon Furr Nursing Scholarship
Description: The American Legion is known for honoring the armed forces and its veterans in many ways, and granting scholarship funding colleges is one of them. Through the Colon Furr Memorial Nursing Scholarship, North Carolina nursing student or prospective nursing students can apply for modest funding of $600, which is given in memory of Colon Furr, Commander of North Carolina. Commander Furr had hoped that by establishing the scholarship fund he could help alleviate some of the nursing shortages he had found in VA hospitals. Candidates for the scholarship should be involved in some way with the American Legion in North Carolina, and should express interest in working with veterans, either through the VA hospital system or otherwise.
